Occupancy Certificate
Definition
A document issued by the local municipal authority certifying that a completed building has been constructed in compliance with the approved plan and is fit for occupation.
Without an OC, a buyer cannot legally take possession or get utilities like water and electricity in their name. OCs are issued only after the building's compliance has been inspected post-construction.
