RERA

Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016

Definition

The central Indian law that regulates real estate, requiring every project above a defined size to be registered with the state RERA authority and to publish a standardised set of disclosures.

Every builder selling a residential or commercial real estate project in India needs a RERA registration number from their state authority. The RERA number must appear on every advertisement, brochure, allotment letter, and demand letter. Buyers, brokers, and CPs can verify the registration on the state RERA portal.
